Parents/Guardians of Elementary School-aged Children
NES Catchment Area
Dear fellow parent and guardians,
The Nederland Elementary School (NES) PTA is reaching out to ask for your help to support our NES. You are an amazing community that banded together just a few weeks ago to demand that candidates outside of BVSD interview for the principal position at NES. This campaign was amazingly successful; three of the candidates interviewed were external to BVSD. The NES PTA hopes that our community will show it strength again.
Covid-19 has wreaked havoc on the budgets across the state, and BVSD is no exception. Every cost is being carefully monitored to ensure that no monies are spent unnecessarily. This fiscal reality, combined with a significantly reduced Kindergarten enrollment for the 2020 – 2021 school year, resulted in NES is losing one teacher (FTE position). The NES PTA hopes to reverse this decision by having all eligible families enroll their Kindergarten student by July 15, 2020. Combined with student withdrawals, NES is at risk of losing more FTE positions. This will force the combination of classes an increase class size.
The NES PTA understand that you are concerned about keeping your children healthy during these uncertain times. We share those same concerns. BVSD will be offering Covid-19 accommodations that will allow your child to learn from home, if that is what you so choose. If you have any questions, please contact the PTA at president@nespta.com (Sara Sandstrom-Kobi) or treasurer@nespta.com (Jess McElvain).
Please act quickly and enroll your eligible child(ren) in Kindergarten or re-enroll you child(ren) that you may have withdrawn. Contact Sheila Kassera at sheila.kassera@bvsd.org or enroll via www.bvsd.org/Enrollment/Pages/enrollmentonline.aspx.
The NES PTA knows that currently there is a lot of uncertainty between Covid-19 and the search for a new principal. We are asking that you give the process a chance and register/re-enroll your child in NES. Please help keep NES and our community strong.
Warmest regards,
Nederland Elementary School PTA Board
